Hostel
Your Bedroom & Bathroom
All bedrooms in the Hostel are private single rooms. Your bedroom is your private area of the home. You are encouraged to surround yourself with your own personal and cherished belongings, including your own bed and a sitting chair. We encourage you to hang family pictures on the walls in your room. All windows have vertical drapes, however we encourage you to personalise your room with your own choice of curtains if you desire to do so. Rooms are fully air conditioned to cater for all seasons. You may have your own TV and radio in your room.
All bedrooms have:
-
built in wardrobes with lockage drawer to store valuables;
-
a private telephone and 24 hour emergency call system;
-
a private ensuite fitted with hand rails and nonslip flooring;
-
a window to the external gardens or the internal courtyard gardens.
Married Couples
Yukana has some provision for adjoining rooms connected by internal door for use by married couples who enter the Hostel together. These married quarters can be set up as 2 single bedrooms or a lounge/TV room and bedroom. Both have a private ensuite. These rooms are in demand and may not be available at the time of entry. We will always endeavour to place married couples as close together as possible within the facility. Married couples, for the purposes of Administration are treated as 2 individual singles and will be allocated a room each. Fees are charged on a single basis.
Laundry
You need to supply your own bed linen, blankets and bed covers etc. Your bed/bathroom linen is laundered weekly in our own laundry facilities.
You may choose to do your personal laundry in the fully equipped laundries situated throughout the Hostel or for a small weekly fee, Yukana will do your personal laundry for you.
You will need to mark your clothes with sew on name tags. Indelible Ink pens are not suitable for the naming of clothes. Yukana has a semi-commercial laundry and must meet infection control standards using high temperatures. Some fabrics and yarns may be damaged by these temperatures and therefore these items will need to be dry cleaned at the resident's expense. Personal laundry is individually washed and dried. It is suggested that you have non-iron, drip dry clothing.
Home Care
For your personal safety and for the safety of our staff, you and /or your family will be expected to maintain your room in a clean and tidy condition at all times. Placement of furniture should not obstruct emergency services such as ambulance / fire personnel.
Your bedroom is thoroughly cleaned weekly by Home Care cleaning staff.
Public areas of the home are cleaned daily.

Independent Living Units
What is an Independent Living Unit?
Independent Living Units (ILU's), by their very name, mean that we encourage residents to maintain an independent lifestyle for as long as they are able, both within the Village and in the outside community.
We encourage village residents to retain their personal doctors, dentists, clubs and entertainment etc, thus maintaining their active and full life.
Independent Living means that you are capable of caring for yourself in personal hygiene and health matters, capably administering your own medications, shopping and cooking, doing your laundry and maintaining your unit in a clean and tidy condition. Your family may be involved in any of the above processes to help maintain your independence.
Living in a Retirement Village is not confining and you are encouraged to participate in the community of both the Village and the wider community, just as you would have done prior to coming into the Village. There are many friendships to be made with people of similar interests and in your own age group.
When a Unit is offered to you, you will need to supply a letter signed by your current Doctor confirming your ability to live independently in an ILU.
Your Unit
Your unit is your private space within the village. It is your choice as to who enters your unit. You can have as much contact with others residents as your wish or remain private if that is your desire.
Emergency Call System
Because from time to time, unit residents require emergency assistance, resident will have an emergency pendent which can be activated by the resident if the need arises. This system is connected directly to the Unit Response Officer (URO), thus providing quick assistance in time of need. This assistance is available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
All Unit Response Officers have Senior First Aid qualifications. The Unit Response Officer will determine the level of assistance needed and arrange for medical attention or an Ambulance to be called if necessary. The URO, because of our 'duty of care' to you as a village resident, does have the final say in assisting you in emergency situations. They will also contact your family with your permission.
